A Glimpse into the Journey of the Madrasah

Alhamdulillah! With the infinite mercy of Allah Almighty, Madrasatul Hasanaine Sylhet has grown into a renowned international centre for women’s Islamic education. It is recognized as one of the most exemplary women’s madrasahs in Bangladesh and Sylhet.

The Madrasah was named “Madrasatul Hasanaine” by the esteemed Islamic scholar and Arabic literary figure, my revered Ustaad, Allama Shaykh Sultan Zawq Nadvi (RA), the founder-director of Jamia Darul Ma’arif. In particular, all activities, thought processes, planning, and management of Hasanaine are conducted following the ideals and methodology of Shaykh Sultan Zawq Nadvi (RA).

I offer my heartfelt gratitude to Almighty Allah, who has honored me with the opportunity to establish and manage this great religious institution and has made the path easy for me. Alhamdulillah!

The Humble Beginnings
This blessed journey began on 22nd April 2002, in a modest rented house at Block F, Shahjalal Uposhahar, Sylhet, with only three teachers and twenty students.

At that time, opportunities for women’s institutional Islamic education in Sylhet city were very limited, and in rural areas almost unimaginable. It was within this context that Madrasatul Hasanaine was founded – with the noble vision of nurturing girls to become socially conscious, educated, self-reliant, and exemplary Muslim women.

Vision and Mission
From the very beginning, my mission was clear – to raise pious and righteous daughters of the Ummah who love Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, who serve as responsible Muslim citizens, and who embody the finest role models as mothers, sisters, and daughters.

Another core objective of establishing this institution was to ensure that women become educated in Deen, inspired by the ideals of Ummahatul Muminin, and equipped with worldly knowledge to thrive in a competitive global environment, thereby contributing a strong role in building an ideal society.

Growth and Expansion
By the grace of Allah (SWT), in 2003, the Madrasah moved from the rented house to its current permanent campus in Uposhahar, generously donated by the late Alhaj Abu Tayyeb Ahmed Chowdhury (RA) and officially registered in the name of Madrasatul Hasanaine Sylhet.

Later, we were also blessed with two more registered lands for our Madrasah – one at Renga Hajigonj Bazar, donated by the late Haji Abdul Mazid (RA), and another at Khadim Pirere Bazar, donated by Hafiz Umed Ali and his family.

Initially, the Madrasah began with the primary level under the Qawmi syllabus. By 2004, Alhamdulillah, we were able to launch Dawra-e-Hadith, the highest level of Madrasah education. Notably, this campus became the first official women’s examination centre in Sylhet city under the Madrasah Education Board – Befaqul Madarisil Arabia.

Comprehensive Education Programs
Alongside Dawra-e-Hadith, we also established:
• Hifz Department
• Computer Department
• Sewing Training Courses

These initiatives broaden the scope of education, equipping students with both religious and practical skills.

Currently, the Madrasah offers:
• Primary & Secondary divisions
• Hifz classes
• Dawra-e-Hadith
• Supplementary programs such as Arabic & English language courses, Qirat & Tajweed training, computer skills, sewing, calligraphy, handicrafts, and art & design.

Objective: Ensure every student grows up as a learned individual in Deen while becoming self-reliant and capable in worldly knowledge.

Serving the Community
• Nearly 600 students receive religious and worldly education annually.
• Around 500 underprivileged, orphaned, and talented students are fully supported by the Madrasah.
• Residential & non-residential facilities are available.
• Education is delivered under the supervision of qualified, trained, and skilled female teachers.

Achievements & Impact
• Students consistently excel in final examinations under the Madrasah Board.
• Numerous graduates complete Alimah and Hafizah courses.
• Alumni now teach globally and contribute in various fields with honor.

Our four-storey building provides safe classrooms, activity spaces, and play areas for younger pupils. The Madrasah integrates traditional Islamic sciences with modern subjects, raising intellectually capable and spiritually enlightened women who positively impact families, communities, and society.

Gratitude & Prayer
I pray that Allah Almighty continues to bless this institution, allowing it to play an even greater role in the welfare of the community and the nation. May all our efforts be accepted in His Court, and may Allah shower His endless blessings upon donors, supporters, teachers, staff, and well-wishers.

Ameen.
